This sleazy, dirty disco ditty is one of those tracks you would hear in a dimly lit lounge in NYC in the late 70's. Moody and slow burning, this remains one of my all-time disco favourites.

Here is a great 30 minute interview with Z Trip from my radio program last week. Z drops knowledge about his latest mixes, his time with the troops overseas and life as a globetrotting deejay. Z Trip will be performing here in Saskatoon this Thursday night @Jaxx. Can't wait for the show!

Mel Cheron, the mastermind behind legendary disco label West End Records sadly passed away a few years ago. However, his musical legacy will forever live on. Here is one of the greatest moments on West End Records, the timeless "Ride On The Rhythm", presented here in its 45" dub mix. Thank you Mel for so many years of great music. You will be sorely missed...

Sampled by Special Ed for "Come On, Let's Move It", this gritty disco monster has a relentless groove that grabs you by the hair and refuses to let go. I had this on compilation for years, but recently aquired this 45" at a store for a whopping 10 cents!! Digging for vinyl never gets old...

I will be starting an electronic music blog within the next month or so along with fellow Canadian music lovers Deko-Ze(PPM/Toronto), Jay Hamilton(Halifax), Jon Delerious(Nordic Trax/Calgary), Chakra Khan(Saskatoon) and a few others to be announced. Although I have featured electronic music from time to time on this blog, I feel it is necessary to have an entire blog dedicated to this genre. With this cast of contributors we will be covering the full spectrum of electronic music - from it's disco roots in the 70's to underground house, breaks, techno and trance classics from the 80's-today. I am very excited to have such a knowlegeable crew to join me on this new journey. I will keep you updated as details unfold. "Sounds Of Dr.J" will continue to run as usual, for those of you who prefer the funk/hip hop and reggae genres. Feel free to drop me a line with suggestions for content, or just general feedback. Here are a few new electronic tracks that have been rocking the dancefloor for me the last couple of months...
A great update on the Lil Louis classic "French Kiss", this has been devastating the dancefloors for months...
A wonderful piece of soulful "tracky"house courtesy of the Mood II Swing crew. This is an older track, but is one of those classic house pieces that never seems to get old. Great way to start an evening in the club.

After a busy week out of town it is nice to be back into the groove again. Here is a great track by Ill Al Skratch, one of my favourite artists from the early 90's. This is the "Grind Mix", which I ripped from an acetate copy of the single that I aquired a few years back. Also, wanted to address a few negative emails I received this week in regards to the sound quality of some of the rips found here on the blog. Let me begin by saying some of the original vinyl that I rip is not pressed well to begin with. It has little or nothing to do with the recording levels set while doing the rip. Some record companies simply release poor sounding vinyl. Secondly, this blog isn't marketed as a source of audiophile quality MP3s. If you want the highest quality available, spend the money and buy an original copy. My daily posts serve as an opportunity to expose people to new music and artists, while providing a platform for discussion about quality music that is hard to find. I receive daily emails from people who appreciate the hard work and dedication necessary to keep this blog alive. Remember - this blog is created to be entertaining, insightful and most of all, fun. Let's keep it that way!

Continuing with my house classics posts - decided to unearth this little gem from 1988. This Marshall Jefferson production features the vocal talents of Kym Mazelle, who later went on to perform as part of the group Soul II Soul. I have had a tremendous amount of feedback regarding my recent house posts, so feel free to email me with your questions/requests. Also, those of you looking for more classic radio show mixes, be patient, as I will be posting some more of those in a couple of weeks.

Nice little funk 45" here that I recently aquired. This is a call to get "funktified and satisfied". Nice groove throughout with some good horn stabs to boot. I just need to dig out my velour suit and all will be good to go...
